Lookie lookie what I finished! I know, it took me long enough! LOL It took me awhile to figure out how I wanted to piece the outer border. I am still not sure I am completely happy with it, but it will have to do. Overall, I really love it : ) I am very happy with the fabric I chose and it will fit perfectly on the end of my bed. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of making the top. I have several ideas swirling around in my head for the next one. I think it is safe to say, the quilt bug has bitten.

So, now on to the quilting. Any recommendations on batting? I was thinking a low loft, all cotton batting. I am still trying to decide how I am going to quilt it. I need to go to the sewing machine store and buy my walking foot. Should I pin baste or thread baste? Also, is the floor the best place to lay it all out? I am really nervous about this step, I don't want to mess up all my work.

It helps to have a tall son to hold the quilt up for photographing : ) I won't tell you that he was just in his boxer shorts while holding it up, because that might embarrass him ; O
Ava likes it too, she was helping Austin hold it up : )

It looks fantastic!! Absolutely stunning! You did such a great job!!!
I would recommend pin basting...it is easy to remove the pins as you go and it makes it easier to move the layers around if you need to. That's what I think anyway...
Wow wow wow. It is just so pretty! I'm glad to hear the quilt bug has bitten ;-) I'm already looking forward to seeing how you finish this....and your ideas for your next top!
WOW It's beautiful!!! I love all the colors! It's perfect for this time of year!
LOVE IT! It came out great!
For batting I like to use Warm and Natural 100% cotton batting. It is nice to work with and it makes for a warm quilt. Can't offer suggestions on the machine quilting because I am just a beginner myself! ;)
It looks fantastic Tonya!! What a beautiful quilt. I like Warm and Natural too and I've also used Heirloom which is nice.
I always pin baste - I lay it on whatever floor surface is big enough.
Can't wait to see it finished :-)

That is GORGEOUS!! You did a brilliant job with the fabrics!!!
Hi
Wow! that looks great!
I think you will like Warm and Natural batting for your first machine quilting. It has less stretch than Heirloom(from Hobbs) you might consider a their cotton poly blend. I think it holds up better to the wash. Both are available in white and natural.
I hate pin basting, in an unnatural way and think its a huge waste of money(pins pins pins) and time- putting them in, taking them out, moving them around. augh!
Your project is small enough to spray baste and/or thread baste.
Good luck and Don't sweat it too much... if your really worried..
do a practice sandwich of other fabrics that is at least as large on one side as your smaller measurement of one side of your true project..example:if true project is 40x60 practice on something that is 30x40... or just go for it..
have fun!
It's beautiful!
I wish I could finish a quilt. Yours makes me want to give it a try!
Great job.
That turned out great!!!! I love the feeling of a finished quilt top!
Your quilt top is gorgeous! I do love the way you placed the two solid colored borders surrounded by blocks. Your points all line up so nicely! I like the idea of spray basting. I've never tried it, but I surely will.
Your quilt top is gorgeous!!! You did an excellent job. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the scrappy border. I can't wait to see you next creation.
About quilting...if you hand quilt then hand baste. If you machine quilt, then use basting safety pins. It is very hard to pull the basting threads out of machine quilting without compromising the quilting stitches. Use the smaller basting pins instead of the large ones--especially if you will be using cotton batting. The smaller pins hold the layers together better. Make sure to put a pin hand distance apart so that your quilt back doesn't pucker. For pin basting I (freezer) tape my backing straight to the carpet and have no problems at all. (Except that my legs don't work once I get up to walk--ha!) Now I am not sure how it would work on wall-to-wall carpeting. I always pin on an area rug on a hard floor. I have done MANY (ABOUT 100) quilts that way and don't have problems when I get to the machine. You will find your groove and what works best for you. Best of luck as I am sure you will be happy with it. You do great work!!
Hope this helps a little.
Hugs!

That is beautiful! I hate you. Even better than I could have pictured. I hate you. I think you should send it to me:) I'm still working on one I started 7 years ago!
Gorgeous! I love it.
What a beautiful quilt top! (I'm actually doing one with the same fabrics...) I'm a new quilter as well, so I can only offer you advice as to what worked for me. I practiced the quilting on some scraps, then decided to jump right in. I also use the warm & natural, and like it a lot. I've never tried pin basting - from the start I've always used spray adhesive. Just make sure you get one that goes away after washing! I've found that it works really well and the layers have never shifted. I lay mine out on the floor of the garage on top of an old sheet... I'm sure you'll do just great - it really does end up being easier than you imagine!
It looks so great! Wonderful job! You're making me want to go dust off my stash of "quilt" fabric and get started!
Wow! It looks great. Congrats.
WOW, that is one of the prettiest quilts I have ever seen. You did a fantastic job!!!!
it's gorgeous! you've got a lot of advice here. basting is very important. if you're machine quilting, you don't want to thread baste. you're going to LOVE a walking foot. i can't wait to see it all quilted up! congrats!!
