Sydney was next on my list for sewing. She picked out this cute Simplicity pattern and this fabulous Anna Maria Horner fabric. It is from her Bohemian fabric line and I think it is my favorite. It isn't easy to find anymore, so I was thrilled when I saw it at my local quilt shop. The pictures came out weird, sorry. It was really overcast and I was in a hurry to take the pictures while cooking dinner.

We had some really bad weather this morning. We got 4 inches of rain at my house in a couple of hours. There were at least two tornadoes that touched down. One of them in downtown Lafayette. Several buildings were badly damaged and lots of trees were knocked down. Anyway, everything was ok here, my kids slept peacefully through the whole thing LOL

My kids were in the local paper!

A couple of weeks ago, my oldest Austin had taken the children to pick blackberries down the street from our house. A photographer from the local newspaper stopped and asked to take pictures. Well, today the pictures were on the front page of the accent section of the newspaper! The article is about picking blackberries, but the pics are my children. Here is a link, you can only see one picture of them, but they had another picture of just Samuel in the actual paper. He was holding his basket full of blackberries LOL Of course, I am saving the newspaper : )

Spring Cleaning

I finally got some of my energy back today, so I tackled some projects that were way overdue. I started going through my kids' clothes to weed out the things that were too small or stained beyond repair. I really hate doing this for some reason, it completely overwhelms me. I guess because there is so much to go through. I got through the majority of it, now I just need to reorganize closets and drawers. I already feel so much better, and I should be able to finish tomorrow. I also need to go through various areas in my house where I tend to stack stuff. After I get through all of the junk, I am going to clean the house top to bottom. Writing it all out is making me tired LOL It will probably take me the rest of the week to finish, but I know when I am done I will feel much better.

Where does all this "stuff" come from? I am not a huge shopper, I really try not to buy things I don't need, but regardless, I am being overrun by "stuff". I think a part of my problem is that I hate throwing things away. I always end up needing something within days of tossing it. Also, I feel I am being wasteful, but instead of just putting it all together and sending it to Goodwill, I feel like I have to sort it out and find the perfect person or charity to give it to. I WAY overthink things ALOT! LOL

Well, enough of that LOL Lookie what I got in the mail yesterday. I ordered these aluminum glasses from The Comfort House last week. My grandmother had some of these, and I loved them when I was a little girl, they make your drinks super cold. Anyway, I have been wanting some and finally did a search and found out that they are making them again. My kids love them, it is nice too, because they are all different colors so everyone remembers which drink is theirs. I only got 6, so not enough for my family LOL Well, I got lucky and won an auction on ebay this morning for some vintage ones. They also come with a pitcher and some bowls. I can't wait to get them!
As you can see in the picture, 3 of the cups already have ice and water in them, you can see the condensation. They couldn't even wait for me to take the pictures LOL



I also got some fabric and patterns from the coop I belong to. I love these Oliver + S patterns, I can't wait to try them out! I also love this Amy Butler Cabo halter, but am trying to figure out a way to make it to where it isn't so low cut.











I love the black print and the brown print. The brown print is bamboo fabric, it is soooo soft.

Lazy Today

Today was another lazy day, it is so nice not to have anywhere to go. The kids have been swimming every day, today was a little too cool since the temperature got down to around 50 last night. That didn't stop them though, they still swam LOL I had bought them all new swimsuits last week at Target. I love Ava's, you can't go wrong with cherries. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Target? They just built one 5 minutes from our house, it is so nice to just run over there and look around whenever I feel like it. They always have great clearances. I got the cutest dress for $10 the day we bought the swimsuits.








Here are the sweet gifts I was given yesterday. Samuel has been giving me little gifts for weeks now, ever since he found out there was such a thing as Mother's Day LOL The first one is from him, it is made of polymer clay and he says it is me, him and dh. Kind of hard to see, I know LOL It has started falling apart. Yes, that is Christmas wrapping paper, I guess it is all he could find LOL



The second one is from Savannah, she made me a little purse and some polymer clay beads, so that I could make my own bracelet. Don't you love the little monster mama with her baby on her back? I think that is supposed to be me : ) They all love playing with polymer clay.







The last one is from Isabella, it is a jewelry or toiletry wrap. She got the idea from a craft book that she borrowed from the library. She did a really good job and it will come in handy the next time I take a trip.





My other children did nice little things for me throughout the day, to show me how much they cared. I didn't have to do anything except sew and take care of myself, it was very nice : ) They even "tried" to keep the arguing to a minimum. At least I didn't have to deal with any of it, dh took care of that. It is interesting to see the different love languages of my children. Some show love by giving gifts, others by doing things to help me, and others just by spending time with me. I love all of them, and they all make me feel very special and cared for : )

Here is the dress I made for Savannah, it is Simplicity 3515. One of the Hannah Montana patterns. I think she wanted it just because it was a HM pattern. I used Amy Butler and some cool grayish purple fabric a friend gave me for the contrast. I like how it came out, a fairly easy and straightforward pattern.







I guess I made up for no pictures yesterday LOL I am so excited, the season finale of The Bachelor is tonight. I really liked this Bachelor, he was from the UK and had a great, dry sense of humor. He wasn't bad on the eyes either ; ) I don't know who I want him to pick, my favorite was Amanda and she went home last week : (

Happy Mother's Day

I hope all of you Mama's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day! I read two beautiful posts today that really blessed me. Hannah, from Cultivating Home and Marie from The Villa Family really summed up what it means to be a Mother.

I had a very nice and relaxing day, I did get to sew, I actually finished Savannah's dress. Will have to show y'all tomorrow, no more daylight to take pictures. I had several wonderful handmade gifts from my children, which I truly treasure.

Disclaimer: I am not a regular watcher of Cheaters LOL It is one of those situations where you are channel surfing and it catches your eye, then you are sucked in and can't stop watching LOL Not that I don't watch my share of trash tv, I have watched every season of The Bachelor : )

No pictures tonight, I will share the dress and my gifts tomorrow.

whew!

Our dance year is done and the recital went off without a hitch. None of the girls got sick, thank God. Actually, everyone is fine, I am hoping that the virus isn't going to strike anyone else. So far so good! The all did beautifully, I am always so proud of them : )

I am kinda tired, right now dh and I are zoning out watching Cheaters LOL Why is it that once you start watching this stuff, you just can't stop?! The host of the show is sooooo creepy. Anyway I am so wiped out, I don't even know if we will make it to church in the morning. I just want to stay home and do nothing.

Sorry, I missed my posting yesterday, the rehearsal went on for 5 hours, and I just wanted to go to sleep when we got home. The rest of the month should be quiet, I am hoping to enjoy lots of sewing time : ) Needless to say, there has been no sewing being done since Wednesday. I got the fabric for the girl's tops cut out and it is all still sitting on my cutting table.

Busy Day

Today was as busy as I thought it would be, and tomorrow and Saturday will be worse. I am trying to enjoy it though, because this is probably the best couple of days the girls will have all year. They love recital. They work hard all year, and this is the big day. I guess it is kind of like Prom for little girls. They get to dress up, put makeup on and show off LOL I will have pictures from the dress rehearsal tomorrow night. We aren't allowed to take pictures at the actual recital, so all of my pictures of them performing will be taken tomorrow.

Everyone please pray that me or the girls don't get sick. My oldest son has been throwing up all day : ( Ava has been fine though, she never got sick again, so I don't even know if they are the same thing. Austin's is obviously a virus, he can't keep anything down. At least he is a big boy, and can make it to the toilet. It would just be terrible if the girls would get sick right before the recital, or if I would since I have to be there for everything, and I need to be feeling good to do everything I need to do.

Sorry, I am talking about vomit again, gotta love being a mom LOL

I found these cups and creamer a couple of years ago at a church garage sale. This sale was mostly junk, I seriously even wondered why we bothered to keep looking. Well, then I saw these! I think this is my favorite find EVER. I would love to buy more pieces, but have never come across any more. Does anyone know anything about this pattern? There is nothing written on the bottoms. It looks like it would be from the 40's or 50's.
