Sewing machine makeover

I know I am supposed to be working on this. However, I got a little sidetracked. I saw a great tutorial from Not Nigella on Sew Mama Sew yesterday, for a sewing machine cover. I love my machine, but her plastic cover isn't exactly pleasing to the eye. I was also itching for a quick and easy project.

Here is my cover before. (No, I did not bring my whole sewing machine outside, just the cover)
Plain, ugly, boring......

Here she is after! Isn't she lovely : )

I thought she needed two outfits, so I made it reversible

and to make her look a little fancier, I added an embroidered detail around the bottom, instead of just plain top stitching.

I used Nigella and Midwest Modern fabric, both from Amy Butler. The Nigella fabric was really nice for this because it is upholstery weight and holds it's shape well. I would probably use interfacing if using only regular quilting weight fabric. I am thinking some of the new Anna Maria Horner Drawing Room fabric would be perfect for this.

I wasn't a complete slacker, I did start cutting out the pattern for my top. I need to get on the ball if I want to wear it Friday.

I love that cover! I am looking at my boring sewing machine cover right now and it could use a makeover too...I may have to give this a try. It seems simple enough for me. :) I saw a tutorial (for sale) for a Kitchenaid Mixer that I just loved...this reminds me of it a little.

Love the machine cover - especially its reversibility! Can't wait to see your finished top - the fabric looks very summery.

Your new cover is fabulous. Don't tell anyone, but I hardly ever cover my machine. My cover is so ugly that I'm never inspired to put it on. Perhaps, if I made her a new one...Hmmm? Yes, I think I just might do that.

Can't wait to see how your top turns out. It will be perfect for the 4th of July.

Have a great holiday,
Cassie

PS Thanks for the blog award. I was flattered! :-)

Tonya,
I'm so glad you stopped by my blog! I've had fun reading through your posts too (Greece! 16 yo!). I can't wait to see your dresses when they're finished; have fun!

Such a cute cover!
I should make one for mine. It's amazing how dusty they get even when I'm sewing every day. (It might be just the thing to keep my darling three year old from playing with the tension controls when I'm not looking)
Did you get your top finished?

The cover is lovely! The fabrics you picked for her "outfits" are really sweet as well. Love the detail! :)
